Bismuth Subcitrate
General information:
This medicine has been prescribed for you only. Do not pass it on to others. It may harm them, even if their signs of illness are the same as yours.
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.
Consult your doctor if you are allergic to this medicine or any of the other ingredients.
Take the medicine according to the physician’s instructions and complete the treatment period.
Even if you feel relieved during treatment, do not stop taking medication at all, and avoid taking more than the recommended amount.
Indication:
Eradication failure of Helicobacter pylori infection (in combination with omeprazole, tetracycline and metronidazole)
For the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Contraindication:
In cases of severe renal insufficiency.
Harmful to people on a low potassium diet.
Hypersensitivity to the active substance (s) or to any of the excipients.
Warnings:
Do not take the medicine more than the amount and duration prescribed by the doctor.
Dosing considiration:
Contains approximately 2 mmol (approximately 40 mg) potassium per tablet. To be taken into consideration by patients with reduced kidney function or patients on a controlled potassium diet.
Prolonged use of high doses of bismuth compounds is not recommended because this has occasionally led to reversible encephalopathy. It is not advisable to take other bismuth-containing drugs concomitantly.
Breast-feeding & Pregnancy:

Lactation: No information available.
Drug Interaction:
No other medicines, food or drink, in particular antiacids, milk, fruit or fruit juices, should be consumed within half an hour before or after a dose of bismuth subcitrate as they may influence its effect. The efficacy of oral tetracyclines may be inhibited.
The concomitant use of bismuth subcitrate with oral tetracycline is prohibited (It lowers the absorption of tetracycline).
Dosage & Indication:
To be swallowed with half a glass of water.
One tablet to be taken four times a day, half an hour before each of the three main meals and two hours after the last meal of the day, or Two tablets to be taken twice daily, half an hour before breakfast and half an hour before the evening meal, or As directed by the physician The maximum duration for one course of treatment is two months; bismuth sub-citrate should not be used for maintenance therapy.
For children: Not recommended.
If you forget to take bismuth subcitrate, do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one. If you forget to take a dose, take the forgotten one before the next meal, provided this does not result in taking a double dose
Side effects:
Extremely few cases of overdosage have been reported; but if you accidentally use more than the recommended amount, contact your doctor or treatment center immediately for further information
Common or very common: May blacken feces. may darken tongue.
Uncommon: Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, pruritus, rash, vomiting. Very rare: anaphylactic reaction.
Overdose:
If you acidentlly consume more than the recomended emount, immediately consult a doctor or medical center.
Storage condition:
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Protect from moisture and light and Keep medicine below 30°C.

Bismantin® 120: Each tablet contains 120mg Bismuth subcitrate.
